Skin Packaging Board
Skin packaging is an alternative to blister packaging. Skin packaging vacuum seals a film over your product on a master sheet, which are then cut to individual cards. Keyslots, round corners and internal die cuts may be added during the cutting process. This type of packaging seals around the product and multi-component products may be segregated and contained. Skin packaging is great for:
- Small to large items
- Light weight to heavy products
- Products without holes or voids
- Rigid products
- Various quantities of different items
- Industrial and some retail products
- Higher profile items
Product Information
Andex skin packaging board provides high strength, low curl and excellent film adhesion. Due to its non-clay coated surface, artwork that is printed on skin packaging board will not be as vivid as the same artwork printed on a blister card. The film that is applied to the skin packaging board will give the graphics a slight glossy appearance.
Andex offers a variety of stock and custom sheets sizes. Stock sizes include:
- 18 x 24
- 24 x 30
- 24 x 36
- 30 x 36
Andex offers three different board thicknesses, which provides great flexibility.
- 24pt. SBS (Solid Bleach Sulfate) - this board is white on both sides
- 33pt. W2S (White Two Sides) - this board has recycled content in the middle layer
- 43pt. W2S (White Two Sides) - this board has recycled content in the middle layer
Andex also offers 2 different skin packaging board adhesives to help suit our customer's unique products:
- Milky coating - excellent adhesion properties
- Semi Clear coating - less aggressive adhesion properties, used mostly on boards with dark backgrounds to reduce the appearance of coating residue not dissipated during the sealing process.
Perforation and/or die cutting, if required, are available upon request.

Information & Materials Needed When Ordering
- Quantity
- Electronic artwork and/or films.
- Number of color including Pantone Matching System (P.M.S.) numbers with "U" (uncoated) suffix.
- Universal Product Code (U.P.C.) number or film negative, if needed.
- Layout sheet showing arrangement of individual cards on a master skin board sheet. Indicate print direction of each card and its relative position to the other (top to bottom, top to top, bottom to bottom, etc.)
When determining a skin board layout, the individual card size is determined by allowing sufficient space for graphics and for film adhesion to the board. Allow at least a ¼" of space around the outside of the master sheet for cutting trim. In spacing product on the board, leave at least as much distance in between products as there is product height. This permits the skin film to be drawn down between the products without webbing. Alternating the print direction of the cards so that the top of one card is positioned across from the bottom of the next is another way to reduce webbing.
It is recommended that test sheets be run through a skin packaging machine early in the project before the card size or graphic design is finalized. (Note: If no layout is provided, Andex will determine one yielding the greatest number of cards per sheet compatible with efficient printability. The customer will be responsible for determining whether their products can successfully be skin packaged using this layout.) - If an existing cutting die will be used to cut individual packages from the master skin sheet, provide an uncut printed master sheet and a second printed sheet that has been run through the die cutter (both without product).
