Why Custom Blister Cards?

Blister cards are the basis for most types of blister packaging. They are quite practical, since there are various different types of blister cards for a wide variety of applications, which we’ll discuss in more detail below. Without sacrificing quality, blister cards can still be an environmentally friendly option for packaging and displaying your products.

Custom blister cards can be single cards, but also used in other variations for card combinations. Blisters can be sealed between the front and back cards. These are then bonded, or are designed with a card that is folded and then bonded.

Different Types of Blister Cards:

There are several different types of blister cards. Which one you choose for your professional solutions depends on your application or specific needs:

4/1 Blister Card

The 4/1 blister card features a 4-color process front and 1-color (black) back. With this type of blister card, you get a front coated for blister sealing. Also, a 20pt C1S (coated one side) blisterboard.

4/4 Blister Card

The 4/4 blister card consists of a 4-color process front and 4-color process back (4 over 4), plus a front coated for blister sealing. Also, a 20pt C2S (coated two side) blisterboard.

Fold Over Blister Card

Andex also can provide printing and packaging solutions for the fold over blister card. This product offers our customers a 4-color process front and 1-color (black) back. Also, it is back-coated for blister or card to card sealing. Also, a 20pt C2S (coated two side) blisterboard.

14pt Insert/Header/Tag Card

Lastly, we also provide 14pt insert/header/tag blister card solutions. This product features a 4-color process front and 1-color (black) back. It is also front coated with semi-gloss coating. Lastly, it also has a 14pt C1S (coated one side) paperboard.

What is a blister card?

When it comes to blister packaging, it comprises of a cardboard blister card, the color and blister coating layers, the product safely enclosed inside, and (typically), a plastic cover. The blister card part of the packaging is commonly designed in one of four styles – the classic blister card, used for cosmetics, stationary, etc., the peel blister card, the barrier blister card, and the environmentally-friendly cardboard blister.

What is blister card packaging?

Blister card packaging, also called blister packs, is a wide range of pre-formed and rigid packaging styles used to safely contain retail items. It is typically comprised of several components: a cardboard blister card, color and blister coating layers, a plastic cover, and the product that is stored inside. Quality-made blister packaging helps your customers to view the product clearly. Investing in quality blister packaging helps to maintain the quality and freshness of the product, prevent humidity from building up, and keep the product from being contaminated. Blister packaging also provides theft protection and even innovative marketing options.

What is the blister process?

Although there are different types of blister packaging, typically the process will start using an aluminum resin tool to create a heat-sealed blister. Next, the cardboard back is printed using a special printing process. The blister is then placed into a sealing machine. Next, the product is placed into the blister and the blister card is added. The sealing machine is placed on a rotating turntable and a hot metal plate is applied to the packaging. Once pressure is applied to the hot metal plate, the sealing of the blister to the card occurs. Finally, the turntable rotates again and the finalized blister packaging is removed and packed for distribution.

What products are commonly stored in blister packaging?

You’ll find that blister packs will be used to store electronics, toys, toothbrushes, stationery, batteries, DIY goods like screws, nuts, and bolts, and any products that are delicate or may be vulnerable to breaking. Blister packaging safely contains small objects and keeps tiny accessories intact. Blister packs are also tamper-proof, which means if someone has attempted to remove the contents of the packaging.

What is blister packaging?

Blister packaging, (otherwise known as blister packages or blister packs), are a cost-effective, durable, transparent, fresh, and tamper-proof solution for your products. A good blister pack design will feature a thermoformed plastic cavity and pliable lid, which are manufactured from pre-formed packaging materials. There are multiple different types of blister packaging, depending on the application. You will find blister packages used for pharmaceutical applications, such as for pills, tablets, capsules, and lozenges, etc. Blister packaging is likewise also a great packing solution for toys, tools, and electronics.

What are the different blister packs?

There are several different types of polymers available for your blister packaging product. The different types of blister packaging materials include but are not limited to PVC, PVDC, PCTFE, and COP, etc. Aesthetically, blister packaging is a solid choice because it provides a high quality visual and textural experience for the consumer. How to open blister packaging?

Opening blister packs will depend on the type of packaging you are attempting to open. For example, to open blister packaging for pills, you can use a small flat screwdriver. Using a flat head screwdriver (e.g. a 1/8″ wide flat head), will help you effectively remove the pill.

What is clamshell packaging?

Clamshell packaging is a type of packaging commonly used in retail and other industries to enclose and protect products. It consists of two hinged halves that resemble a clamshell, hence the name. Quality clamshell packaging will demonstrate excellent package protection with clarity and visibility to see the product inside, while also being quality sealed for theft and tamper resistance. Also, it can be customized to contain light to heavyweight products, and can even come in unique or complex shapes, die cuts, and design styles. How do I open clamshell packaging?

To open clamshell packaging, you will first: locate the edge where the two halves of the clamshell meet. Then, you will insert a sharp object like scissors, a utility knife, or a clamshell opener into the edge. Next, carefully cut or slice along the edge, following it around the entire package. Lastly, once you’ve cut through the edge, you can separate the two halves of the clamshell to access the product.

How is clamshell packaging made?

At Andex, we manufacture the packaging via a process known as thermoforming. The steps involved with thermoforming include: heating a sheet of plastic (usually PVC or PET) until it becomes pliable; and then placing the plastic sheet over a mold that has the desired shape and design of the packaging. The next step in the process is to use vacuum or pressure to draw the plastic sheet tightly against the mold. Lastly, once the plastic is cooled, we allow it to harden and maintain the shape of the mold. Lastly, the two halves of the clamshell are hinged together using a living hinge or attached with additional mechanisms. Find out more about thermoforming on our thermoform clamshell page.

How do you seal clamshell packaging?

There are various methods used for sealing clamshell packaging. These can include: heat sealing, which involves applying heat to melt the edges of the plastic, and fuse the two plastic halves together; or using adhesive or glue to apply to the edges of the clamshell to bond the two halves together. Another way the packaging is sealed is via sonic welding, which involves high-frequency vibrations to create friction and melt the plastic edges, joining them securely. And lastly, mechanical fasteners, such as small clips, pegs, or other mechanical devices to secure the clamshell, often requiring a tool or specific action to open them.
